  • What makes your services different/unique/better?
    • We’ve been doing this work as jmspartners for nearly 25 years. We are experienced practitioners, not academicians or researchers. We are not tied to a single proprietary model, tool, or theory. We employ the best of the best and are continually learning . . . and applying what we’ve learned. We custom-tailor every assignment to fit our client’s specific needs – we have no “shrink-wrapped” solutions. From start to finish, we adhere to principles of discipline and practicality and are always directly accessible to our clients.

  • Can/do people really change?
    • Yes, absolutely, people can and often do change. We’ve seen it. We’ve influenced it. However, established habits are difficult to unlearn. Learning different ways of thinking and new behaviors requires conscious and active work. It takes practice and, in the beginning at least, is often uncomfortable and awkward. Further, noticeable change takes time for others to perceive and to acknowledge. In the end, people change when they are ready, supported, and working with someone trustworthy and skilled.

  • Why is it “standard practice” for 360º feedback to be anonymous?
    • Cultural norms and power differentials limit the kind and degree of openness that people will engage in. Even when company values explicitly emphasize openness, honesty, integrity, and direct communication, human nature limits the degree of candor most people are willing to express – especially in the workplace. Collecting data that is anonymous encourages rich, relevant information that is potent for the recipient, while also ensuring the givers’ confidentiality.

  • Do you offer public seminars?
    • Public seminars have merit and meet significant individual development needs. However, they are not generally designed to influence the larger system or culture of an organization. jmspartners’ Leadership Development and Organizational Effectiveness assignments are constructed to ensure that “good ideas” and “critical insights gained” are actually applied. The breadth of our work allows us to remain engaged with the client “the morning after” to ensure that the lessons learned become “the way we do things around here.”

  • Can the Executive 3D Retreat be conducted at my location?
    • The content and process of the Executive 3D Retreat can be executed virtually anywhere – because they work. We purposely conduct the Retreat in Sedona, Arizona, because it is an awe-inspiring, special venue that has a global reputation for helping people to think creatively, expand their vision, and be renewed.

  • May I pay for jmspartners’ services myself?
    • Most of our work is focused on developing leadership capabilities and/or greater organizational effectiveness. As such, it is typically sponsored by the organization. An exception is the Executive 3D Retreat, since it is primarily focused on “self-leadership” and personal/career decision that may not specifically involve the participant’s organization/employer.

  • What industries do you specialize in?
    • Every industry and every business needs capable leaders. Better leaders mean better organizations. Our principles, tools, and processes apply across industries and businesses. Since 1988, jmspartners has provided custom-fit services to scores of diverse organizations, including some of the best in their respective industries: energy, manufacturing, high-tech, restaurant and food services, retail, home building, transportation, pharmaceuticals, insurance and financial services, higher education, and non-profits.

  • What’s required to ensure success in your work with a client, e.g., Executive Coaching?
    • Visible success with our assignments always requires these three components: a willing and ready client, explicit organizational support, and mutual rapport and trust between the client and the consultant.

  • Do you provide services to small firms, non-profits and the like or just Fortune 1000 companies?
    • Historically, about 98% of our practice is with large, national or global business organizations. Since jmspartners’ was founded in Dallas, Texas, a major center of Fortune 500 headquarters, this has been our heritage. However, during our 24 years, we have worked with venture capital-backed entities and start-ups, family businesses, and, of course, young companies aspiring to the Fortune 1000.

  • Which Principal works on which assignments?
    • We take a pragmatic approach to servicing client engagements. Each of us has a set of specific skills and expertise and has specialty practice areas within jmspartners’ Leadership Development and Organizational Effectiveness service offerings. In most cases, one Principal is the designated consultant. Some work, like a Team Offsite, may benefit from two facilitators and the added perspective that a second practitioner can provide.

  • What is your daily professional billing rate?
    • Professional fees depend on the particular service provided. Minimum billing is one day. While a survey of coaches conducted for a 2009 HBR Research Report (The Realities of Executive Coaching) puts the median hourly cost at $500.00 per hour, jmspartners’ rates are less than the median. Since our founding in 1988 we’ve taken pride in providing exceptional services without the exceptional expense. Please contact us for more information.
